ASSERTIVENESS – RELATING GENTLY AND FIRMLY

MODULE #6: Assertiveness gets a bad name in some circles of the church because of its erroneous connotation as “getting my own way.” In fact, assertiveness is about relating to others gently and firmly. The book, Speaking the Truth in Love: How to Be an Assertive Christian, uses Jesus as the model for assertiveness. Kam Cook acted as facilitator for Module #6: Assertiveness – Relating Gently and Firmly, Part 1. Stephen Minister trainees discovered the difference between passive, assertive and aggressive behavior and gained skills that will help us both in relating to others and in affirming our own worth. We learned and practiced assertiveness skills and were urged to use our newfound skills in real-life settings.
