Boston Butt Fundraiser for Youth Missions

Boston Butt Fundraiser for Youth Missions

You can support the youth's summer mission trip to Passport Furman in Greenville, South Carolina, by purchasing a ticket for a Boston Butt!

Jim Welch from Welch's Country Smokehouse on Bass Road will cook the Boston Butts (no turkeys). Tickets will be available for $35 each from Wednesday, October 10 through Wednesday, November 14. You can purchase tickets from the youth and in the church office. You must pay for your tickets when you receive them. The tickets are good until April 21, 2019.

After the sale is over, you can call the phone number on the ticket at least 48 hours before you want to pick up your Boston Butt from Welch's Country Smokehouse at 1687 Bass Road (Be mindful of the business hours as you plan!) Since you can wait to pick up your meat whenever you like, it will make your holiday meals quick and easy. The tickets also make great gifts!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Highland Hills did it again! You opened your heart to the needs of others and donated lots and lots of school supplies for Kings Park. Thank you for your generosity.

Now it's time to help with another need. During the months of October and November we will collect canned goods and staples for the homeless and others in need. Collection boxes are located in the hallways near the parlor and elevator.

Our Risk-Taking Missions Initiative calls us to practice transformational love for our city. We support local missions “Micah Projects” such as Loaves and Fishes of Macon. Loaves and Fishes is a ministry that provides for many needs for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Through your tithes and offerings, our missions budget supports the monthly cost, about $60, to provide sack lunches to these neighbors in need. Classes and groups from children to adults pack the sack lunches each month. Different individuals deliver them on the first Tuesday of each month. See Emily Brumley to volunteer to deliver Loaves and Fishes meals.

Our summer missions series called “Terrific Tuesdays” is in full swing. Each Tuesday in June, we are welcoming children from the neighborhood and sharing wonderful fellowship with the Kings Park Neighborhood Association leaders. Continue to pray for our connections with these neighbors. We can always use more volunteers. Please email Erin Hall here or Emily Brumley here to volunteer.

Children’s Mission Recognition Service

Children’s Mission Recognition Service

Wednesday, May 2

During the middle of the week, many of our Highland Hills families take a break from their hectic schedules to attend choir and mission classes. Our children find joy in gathering with their friends for this time of spiritual enrichment.

Mission classes are an important part of our Preschool and Children’s Ministry programs. Our children have an enthusiasm for learning about new countries and the work of missionaries in those countries. They also enjoy the occasional sampling of foods from these countries, the fun of a great art project, and of course the thrill of a competitive game of Four Square.

As we close out another year of mission classes at Highland Hills, we invite you to join us as our Mission Friends and Children on Mission classes share the highlights of their year. This service will take place\ on Wednesday, May 2, at 6:30 pm in our Great Room. Come and hear their stories and be inspired by their enthusiasm for telling the story of Jesus to a world that is waiting to hear.

Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger

Sunday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m.

Highland Hills will make an impact on world hunger by hosting a Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event on November 5, at 4:00 p.m.

All ages of our church, from preschoolers to senior adults, will work together to pack meals that feed people in our world. The meals are shipped throughout the world to support school feeding programs, orphanages, and crisis relief. The Rise Against Hunger organization provides all supplies and instructions; we supply the helping hands. We need you! There are jobs for everyone: scooping ingredients into meal bags, measuring ingredients, filling boxes, and carrying and stacking boxes.

We will pack 12,096 meals in about two hours. If we have more volunteers, we can pack even more, so invite your Sunday school class and friends. We need a minimum of 50 volunteers. Senior adults, children, youth, adults, and preschoolers age 4 and older can help. This is an excellent time to invite friends from the community to serve alongside us. Volunteers should register online by clicking here.

Join in the fun on Sunday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m. and help us make more than 12,000 meals to join the rise against hunger.

Here are some upcoming ways we are invited to "do, love and walk" as we serve our neighbors this month.

Make your plans to be there:

  1.  EMPOWER: Bike-a-Thon - On October 18, we will all cheer on our children and youth as they bike to raise money for purchasing bicycles for children at Christmas time. These bicycles will be provided to families in poverty who are connected to the Mentor's Project.
  2. FEED: Rise Against Hunger - We will host a church-wide meal packing event again this year. Join in the fun on Sunday, November 5 at 4:00 p.m. Sign up here: (link to our sign up) and help us make over 12,000 meals. This year, many of the meals will feed areas devastated by hurricane damage.
  3. FEED: Loaves and Fishes - October 3 will be our next monthly delivery of sack lunches to Loaves and Fishes. See Emily Brumley or Erin Hall if you would like to help deliver these lunches some time.

Do, Love, Walk - Celebrating Missions

Do, Love, Walk - Celebrating Missions

"What does the Lord require of you? But to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God" (Micah 6:8). Our congregation is living out this challenge in many ways. In September, we collected many uniforms for children at Burdell-Hunt Elementary School, a local ministry partner. We participated in "Undie Sunday" last week, as worshipers brought forward donations of underwear and socks for school children. These hundreds of "undies" will support the needs of the clothing closet at Burdell-Hunt, offering help to many families in need.

We also give thanks to God for the opportunity to care for our neighbors during the recent storms. We were able to help care for children's needs at the Methodist Children's Home as they welcomed Hurricane Irma evacuees. We provided a meal to families at the Ronald McDonald House during the storm. We partnered with Emergency Management to help people in the storm shelter go shopping at Goodwill for needed clothing. We supported a family in the Shirley Hills neighborhood in many ways. This family with six children lost their home when it was crushed by a fallen tree. God worked through generous hearts to help this family relocate to a safe home with furnishings. Many of our families gave needed clothing to this family who lost so much in the storm. What a privilege to walk with God into these spaces of need in our community.
