Vision 20/20 Offers 40 Days of Prayer

Vision 20/20 Offers 40 Days of Prayer

Our Vision 20/20 congregational process has begun. In this early part of the process, we are each invited to begin a season of prayer. This week, you began receiving daily emails in your inbox as a guide. You are invited to follow each daily devotional and spend time in prayer for our congregation and community. The daily prompt follows Forty Days of Prayer: Preparing Ourselves for God’s Calling, by Mark Tidsworth. This same prayer guide is available as a hard copy book if you choose. Guides are available in the Great Room on Wednesday evening and the hallway near the sanctuary on Sunday morning. Join in this time of prayer and discernment.

Lenten Devotional Guides Available

Lenten Devotional Guides Available

The journey to the cross during the Season of Lent is a time filled with prayer, reflection, and self-examination. Corporately, we worship God with our congregational songs and prayers, but we are also called to spend time alone with God.

The forty days of Lent are a perfect time for private devotion. Our ministers want to offer a devotional guide to enhance this time for you. This year’s guide is titled – Mercy, Passion and Joy. It is a devotional guide that reflects on the writings of C. S. Lewis. These devotions will guide you to spend time contemplating the mercy of Christ, the passion he suffered, and the joy that is ours because of Christ’s great sacrifice for us. The devotional guides will be available throughout the church beginning on Sunday, January 31. Be sure to get your copy and allow it to be a part of your Lenten experience.

Spiritual Renewal Retreat

February 5 & 6, 2016

What are you longing for in this new year? What resolutions are you adopting that will enrich your life? It is our hope that 2016 will be a year of spiritual renewal for you as an individual and for our Highland Hills church family.

During the weekend of Friday, February 5 through Saturday, February 6, our entire church body is invited to be a part of a Spiritual Renewal Retreat that will be held in the Great Room and will be led by Jeanie Miley. Jeanie, who is from Houston, Texas, is a gifted writer, retreat leader, and spiritual director. She is the author of twelve books and has written a weekly newspaper column, Growing Edges, for 36 years.

The theme for our retreat is Lent: A Call to Love. Friday evening’s session, Love for Self, will begin with a light supper at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. The retreat will continue on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a gathering time around coffee and doughnuts. There will be two sessions on Saturday with lunch served in between. The sessions on Saturday will focus on Love for Others and Love for God. The retreat will conclude by 2:00 p.m.

In order for everyone to be involved in this time of renewal, there will be special retreat activities planned for our preschoolers, children, and youth. They will have the opportunity to experience a time of active learning and fun of their own.

Let’s make 2016 a time for spiritual renewal and growth. Mark February 5 and 6 off on your calendar, and make plans to be a part of this exciting weekend at Highland Hills.

LENT Challenge 2015

LENT Challenge 2015

Look Around

Sharing a challenge together.

Each day of Lent, a challenge will be posted on our church Facebook and Twitter pages. You’ll see a WORD of the day, a SCRIPTURE and a CHALLENGE for reflection or activity.

We invite you to share your pictures and reflections because this is another way to learn our stories. These posts will also help visitors and friends who “look around” and wonder what Highland Hills Baptist Church is all about. This is one way our church’s online presence can speak about the ways we are a community challenged to follow Christ.

Use #lookaroundhhbc to share pictures and thoughts related to the Lenten daily challenge and the Lent calendar for families.

What if I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account? No problem. Take a printed copy of the daily challenges. Share your experiences by emailing the church office OR sharing with friends in your Sunday school class.
