Thank You to our Summer Intern!

Thank You to our Summer Intern!

Our Preschool and Children’s Summer Intern, Abigail Pierce, has done an outstanding job of leading our preschoolers and children and giving assistance with administrative tasks throughout the summer. Ruth and Carol might not have survived the summer without Abigail as their dependable and reliable “right hand” for Children’s Camp, VBS, and all of the summer events.

It’s time to say farewell to Abigail as she returns to the University of Georgia for her sophomore year. Join us in saying “thank you” to Abigail for a job well done!

Lunch for Our Neighbors

Lunch for Our Neighbors

We are partnering with a neighboring school, Burdell Hunt Elementary, to meet needs in our
community. On Monday, July 31, HHBC will serve lunch for the faculty and staff on the day before school starts. To help with this lunch, please bring homemade sweet treats, cookies, bars, and brownies on Sunday, July 30, to be taken to the school. You can leave these items in the Great Room kitchen.

Summer of Service

Summer of Service

Combined Adult Sunday School Series Our combined adult Sunday School is enjoying discussion based on the book "A New Kind of Christianity" by Brian McLaren. The group also completes a project each week to show compassion for our neighbors.

So far this summer we have created "birthday boxes" for families connected with Loaves and Fishes, written letters to homebound members, packed care packages for deployed soldiers, and made care packages for servers in the downtown restaurant industry. Join in on Sundays at 9:45 for a summer of service and help show our neighbors that we care.

Women on Mission Not Meeting in August/ Collecting School Supplies

WOM will not meet in August but will hold their next monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 5, at 10:00 a.m.

They are sponsoring a churchwide collection of school supplies for local school children. Please place your donations in the collection bins located by the parlor entrance and the upper level elevator.

Next Steps in Vision 20/20

Next Steps in Vision 20/20

Below are the initiatives that the congregation affirmed in worship on June 4. Over the summer, the team is working on a plan to put them in place. We ask that you reflect on them, too—and prayerfully consider where God is calling you to participate. Look for more details next month.

  • Vital Worship. Worship at HHBC calls us to praise, love, and serve God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. Worship draws creatively from diverse Christian traditions, along with the gifts and experiences of the entire congregation.
  • Intentional Faith Development.Members of HHBC are biblically literate, theologically and historically knowledgeable, and growing spiritually so that they engage community and culture in ways faithful to our unique Baptist identity. A variety of serious faith development opportunities are available for all age groups; some take place on Sunday mornings and others throughout the week at different locations in the city.
  • Radical Hospitality. HHBC embodies Christ’s radical call to and welcome of all people to participate in the reign of God. Not only do people feel at home and valued inside the church walls, but the church also reaches across Macon- Bibb in a variety of ways to address the range of human needs: physical, mental, social, spiritual, etc.
  • Risk-Taking Missions. HHBC involves every age and ability in practicing transforming love for our city, while partnering with national and global agencies to further God’s kingdom around the country and world.
  • Passionate Community. HHBC is characterized by such a strong sense of community that we are motivated to care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our members across generational lines.
  • Generous Stewardship. All members of HHBC, as one of their spiritual disciplines, give generously of their time, talents, and money. In turn, the church makes wise use of these gifts for furthering God’s kingdom.

Children’s Summer Sunday School – Compassion in Action

Children’s Summer Sunday School – Compassion in Action

Our Children’s Ministry leaders feel that one of the most valuable ministries available to our children and their families is the Sunday School hour. It is in this time where our children learn the stories of faith and apply those lessons to their lives.

This summer, our first through sixth graders will have opportunity to be a part of a new Sunday School experience. Beginning June 4, our children will start a series of lessons and experiences that will focus on compassion.

The class will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a Gathering Time, where the children will enjoy a light breakfast snack, upbeat music, and a fun gathering activity. Compassion will be the theme of each biblical lesson. Throughout the summer, the children will create a continuous art project that will hang in our hallway when it is completed, as well as put compassion into action with some engaging mission projects.
