The Preschool and Children’s Ministry Committee is excited to announce that something new for children is coming to Highland Hills Baptist Church this summer! We are recreating Vacation Bible School into an interactive week of Bible study, creative experiences, and tons of fun. It will be new! It will be different! It will be an opportunity for our HHBC children and children from our Macon community to experience the love of God and the joy of friendship.

Camp Create is the name of this week-long experience. It will be held on Monday – Friday, June 3-7 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with a Celebration Sunday morning event on June 9. The theme for this year’s camp is Better Together. During this week children will learn about the love and care it takes to be a good neighbor and the joy of working together to share and experience God’s love.

Local artists, teachers, musicians, and chefs will be on our campus to guide our children in hands-on creating. Each day of the week will have a different creative focus consisting of: Hand Lettering and Drawing, Cooking, Science, Painting, and Drama. Each day there will be Bible study, worship, music and games. The week will culminate in a Sunday Celebration that will take place during our morning worship service and be followed by lunch and an art gallery display.

Reserve this date on your calendar. Registration is required.

Hop, skip and jump with us down to the creek bank. Kick off your shoes and wade with us in the cool water. Our Children’s Choir will meet you there to share some songs and stories of God’s love and provision as they present their spring musical.

Down By the Creek Bank is a timeless and classic children’s musical written by Dottie Rambo. You will hear some classic songs such as, Ain’t Gonna Let the Mountains Praise the Lord, and Being Me. These are just a few of the toe-tapping tunes that will be presented.

Our Children’s Choir has been working since January to prepare for this musical. Their presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 6:45 p.m. in our chapel. The performance will be followed by a fellowship in our courtyard. So grab your fishin’ pole and a friend and join us down by the old holler log!

Pancakes with the Pastors

Pancakes with the Pastors

Shrove Tuesday, the last day before the season of Lent, is a day for pancakes. Historically, families needed to use up their stored supplies of flour, butter, eggs, and milk because those supplies wouldn’t be used during the fasting of Lent. Instead of letting them go to waste, the solution was to make pancakes!

Preschoolers, children, youth, and their parents are invited to enjoy Pancakes with the Pastors on Tuesday, March 5, at the home of Cass and Ruth DuCharme, 1640 Rivoli Lane in Macon. Drop in between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for some pancakes and bacon with your friends. The staff will also share a devotional guide for each family to take home to use during the season of Lent.

Full Court Press Family Retreat

Full Court Press Family Retreat

Saturday, February 23, 11am

Playing basketball requires stamina, commitment, and practice. It is a team sport where teammates work together and coaches guide players to victory. Maybe there are some lessons that we can learn from basketball that also apply to the practice of faith.

Families of preschoolers, children, and youth are invited to join us on center court – that is Highland Hills – for a day retreat focused on faith and family. We will look at how we can pass on faith to our children and make sure their head is in the game. We will “enter his courts with praise” as we spend time worshipping together. Finally, we will truly experience the game of basketball as we end the afternoon cheering on the Mercer Bears from the private box at Hawkins Arena.

Full Court Press Family Retreat will take place on Saturday, February 23 beginning at 11:00 a.m. This retreat is for preschoolers, children, youth, and parents. During the retreat, there will be times for the different age groups to engage in separate spiritual formation and times when we will come together for an intergenerational experience.

The retreat will begin at Highland Hills at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided, and there will be childcare for preschoolers. The retreat will end at 3:00 p.m. when we will make our way to Mercer for the 4:00 p.m. basketball game. There is no cost for the retreat, but sign-up is required. Call the church office or sign-up below to make your reservations by Wednesday, February 20.

Caring for Our Children

Caring for Our Children

This is just a reminder to our families with children for safety reasons the downstairs entrances are locked during the Sunday morning worship service. The doors will be locked from 11:05 a.m.– 12:05 p.m. If you arrive late for worship or need to leave the worship service early, you will need to access the nursery area from inside the building.

Our church values the safety of our children, and updates to our automated security system are currently in process.

Wednesday Nights for Children and Youth

Wednesday Nights for Children and Youth

Wednesday evenings at Highland Hills are busy days for our preschoolers, children, and youth. Our teachers keep our students engaged in wonderful learning opportunities that heighten and enrich their growing faith.

During the five o’clock hour our preschoolers, children, and youth have choir rehearsals. While our preschoolers have fun learning and playing with musical activities, our children and youth are busy preparing for upcoming performances. Our children will begin work on their Spring presentation and an anthem to be sung on Palm Sunday. The Youth Choir will be getting ready for Winter Jubilate. They will spend the weekend of January 19-20 preparing songs that will be presented at Highland Hills on Sunday, January 20 at 6:00 p.m. All preschoolers, children, and youth are welcome to add their voices to our choirs as they resume on Wednesday, January 9.

After a delicious Family Night Supper meal, the learning continues as our preschoolers and children participate in Mission Friends and Children on Mission. Our creative teachers guide these young hearts to explore the joy of sharing God’s love through ministry and missions. They learn about the work of missionaries and have opportunities to be missionaries themselves as they join our church in various mission projects.

At 6:30 p.m. our youth fill the Youth Room with laughter and conversation as they explore God’s word for them in Bible Study led by our youth intern, Elizabeth O’Dell.

There is a place for you and your family on Wednesday nights at Highland Hills as we all learn and grow in faith together.

Promotion Sunday and Blessing of Students

Promotion Sunday and Blessing of Students

Sunday, August 19

For our children, celebrating birthdays and graduations is a big part of growing up. They look forward to these and other milestones with joy and eagerness. The preschoolers, children, and youth of Highland Hills get that same feeling when Promotion Sunday rolls around.

Sunday, August 19, is Promotion Sunday for our church. On this day, our students will begin the morning in their current Sunday School classes, and then at 10:30 a.m. we will promote those who are going into new classes and departments.

A highlight of this day will take place in worship when we present our first graders and seventh graders with a new Bible. Children and youth in this age group are taking giant steps into new ministry areas of our church. We like to mark this occasion with the gift of a new Bible from our congregation.

Also during worship on this Sunday, we will have a Blessing of Students. Preschoolers, children, and youth are encouraged to bring their school backpacks to worship for a time of individual blessing and to receive a gift to carry with them throughout the school year.

You’re Invited: Summer Sunday School for Children

You’re Invited: Summer Sunday School for Children

Sunday School is one of the most valuable ministries that we offer through our Children’s Ministry at Highland Hills. In these classes our children are taught the stories of our faith and how to apply the truths of these stories to their lives.

This summer our first through sixth graders will have the opportunity to be a part of a new Sunday School experience. Beginning June 3, our children will start a series of lessons and experiences that will focus on the invitation to join God in God's work in the world.

The class will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a gathering time where the children will enjoy a light breakfast snack, upbeat music, and a fun gathering activity. Accepting God's invitation will be the theme of each biblical lesson. Throughout the summer the children will be involved in a continuous art project, as well as participate in ministry projects that will focus on caring for the world.

Even though school is out and the pace of life slows down during the summer, the study of God’s Word continues at Highland Hills. Join your friends in Bible study this summer, and discover God’s invitation for you to be a part of God’s work in the world.
