Vision 20/20: Moving Along

Vision 20/20: Moving Along

Things may have gone quiet, but be assured that work on implementing Vision 20/20 continues. The deacon officers, along with Jake and Paul Lewis, are serving as the de facto coordinating group and are working to begin aligning the Nominating Committee report and the new budget with the Vision 20/20 initiatives.

The Nominating Committee is drawing from the names of those who signed up for different ministry teams/projects on September 10. We are working to identify ministry leadership teams for the six initiatives. The teams, along with existing committees and organizations will be charged with implementing the various goals that were set out in the final Vision 20/20 report.

If you have not signed up for a team/project, it is not too late to do so! You can sign up for one (or more) of the teams, indicate your interest in being the leader of that team, or simply participate in one (or more) of the activities, by signing up at the link below. We also have paper forms at the church.

If you have not yet read the final report, it is available in the magazine rack in the main hallway of the church or for download by clicking the link below.

Vision 20/20 Lunch & Ministries Fair

Vision 20/20 Lunch & Ministries Fair

Sunday, September 10

We will gather on September 10 for a final Vision 20/20 congregation-wide meeting after worship. We will again begin with a simple lunch that will be followed by a presentation of the final report from the Vision 20/20 team. In the report, we will set out action plans for each of six initiatives. Finally, everyone will be given an opportunity to meet with each design team in a “fair” setting to explore how you will be part of HHBC’s future.

Recall that, as a congregation, we have discerned that God is calling us over the next few years to engage in vital worship, intentional faith development, radical hospitality, risk-taking missions, passionate community, and generous stewardship. Over the summer, the church staff, Vision 20/20 team members, and a few others have formed design teams to work on specifics. Now it is time to move from discernment to action.

In preparation for this meeting, study the initiatives and prayerfully consider which one(s) match up with your gifts, calling, and joy.

And don’t forget to make reservations for lunch, either by calling the church office, emailing churchoffice@highlandhillsbaptist.org or signing up online by clicking here.

Vision 20/20 Progress Report

Vision 20/20 Progress Report

The six initiatives that emerged as God spoke through the congregation represent the destination of the church over the next few years. However, they do not tell us how to get there. Put differently, they tell us we are heading for Orlando, but they do not tell us how we are getting there. Are we going by plane, train, or automobile?

Over the summer, the church staff, Vision 20/20 team members, and a few others have formed design teams have been working on the how. They are drawing up initial plans for putting meat on the bones of the six initiatives. The design teams for the initiatives are: Vital Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Radical Hospitality, Risk-Taking Missions, Passionate Community, and Generous Stewardship.

On September 10, we will present our final report at a congregational meeting after worship and a lunch. We will set out those plans and give you opportunity to meet with each of the design teams and say how you will be part of the future.

Here’s what you can do now:

Mark your calendar now to be part of that event. Study the initiatives. Which one (or ones) excite you? Prayerfully consider where your deep sense of gifts, calling, and joy meets the world’s great needs. Continue to pray over the summer for the Vision 20/20 team as we work on more details to be announced on Sept. 10.

Next Steps in Vision 20/20

Next Steps in Vision 20/20

Below are the initiatives that the congregation affirmed in worship on June 4. Over the summer, the team is working on a plan to put them in place. We ask that you reflect on them, too—and prayerfully consider where God is calling you to participate. Look for more details next month.

  • Vital Worship. Worship at HHBC calls us to praise, love, and serve God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. Worship draws creatively from diverse Christian traditions, along with the gifts and experiences of the entire congregation.
  • Intentional Faith Development.Members of HHBC are biblically literate, theologically and historically knowledgeable, and growing spiritually so that they engage community and culture in ways faithful to our unique Baptist identity. A variety of serious faith development opportunities are available for all age groups; some take place on Sunday mornings and others throughout the week at different locations in the city.
  • Radical Hospitality. HHBC embodies Christ’s radical call to and welcome of all people to participate in the reign of God. Not only do people feel at home and valued inside the church walls, but the church also reaches across Macon- Bibb in a variety of ways to address the range of human needs: physical, mental, social, spiritual, etc.
  • Risk-Taking Missions. HHBC involves every age and ability in practicing transforming love for our city, while partnering with national and global agencies to further God’s kingdom around the country and world.
  • Passionate Community. HHBC is characterized by such a strong sense of community that we are motivated to care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our members across generational lines.
  • Generous Stewardship. All members of HHBC, as one of their spiritual disciplines, give generously of their time, talents, and money. In turn, the church makes wise use of these gifts for furthering God’s kingdom.
