Just one day… that’s all I got this year. In years past, I sometimes took four or five days for a Spring Break trip with my family, but this year my Spring Break was just one day. Easter Monday was a day of rest for the staff of Highland Hills, following a full schedule of Holy Week services, and that one day was my Spring Break. Just one day… not enough time to go to the beach, not enough time to escape to the mountains, and not enough time to visit family in SC.

Just one day… but it was a beautiful, perfect spring day. And, as it turns out, just one day was the perfect amount of time to pick azaleas and make a bouquet for the kitchen, the perfect amount of time to plant some flowers in containers on my patio, and the perfect amount of time to sit on the newly brightened patio and finish the book that I had been reading.

I was given a gift of just one day. A gift of one whole day to do the things I love and allow God to refresh my soul. Sometimes, one day is all we get. Sometimes, it’s just one hour or one minute. But we can take the time that we are given and allow God to refresh us, renew our minds, and fill us with a sense of gratitude. Each day is a gift from God and each day is “the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!” Just one day… that’s all I got this year. But it was the perfect amount of time!
