Highland Hills entered into an interim period for preaching leadership in mid-February. As our church looks ahead to the next step along the journey, we seek God’s guidance in finding the next full-time pastor that will lead our church family.

Highland Hills is now accepting resumes for the position of senior pastor. Brett Younger, Interim Pastor

Brett Younger is serving as Highland Hills' interim pastor. Brett is the Associate Professor of Preaching at the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta. He teaches introductory and advanced courses in preaching as well as classes in worship and writing.

He received his B.A. in religion from Baylor University, and his M.Div. and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Brett and Carol (also a graduate of Baylor and Southern) have two sons, Graham, a student at the University of Georgia Law School, and Caleb, a student at Georgetown University.

Cass DuCharme

Associate Pastor, Music & Youth

Cass DuCharme became the Minister of Music at Highland Hills in October of 1992. In October of 2005, he added the youth ministry of the church to his resume. He is married to Ruth Sprayberry DuCharme, the Children’s Minister at Highland Hills and has two children, Caitlyn, a freshman at Mercer University and Chase, a 10th grader at Howard High School.

Ruth DuCharme

Minister to Children

Ruth DuCharme has served as Minister to Children at Highland Hills Baptist Church since May of 1995.  She is married to Cass DuCharme, the Associate Pastor of Highland Hills Baptist Church.  They have one daughter, Caitlyn, who is a freshman at Mercer University, and a son, Chase, who is a student at Howard High School.

Carol Brown

Director of Preschool Ministries

Carol Brown has served as Director of Preschool Ministries at Highland Hills since May of 1995. She is married to Dr. Steve Brown, who is the Associate Dean of Student Services at Mercer University. They have two sons: Burgess, a second-year student at Georgia Tech, and Hudson, a senior at Central High School.

Gerald Carper

Organist

Gerald N. Carper came to Highland Hills as Organist in August of 1987. Gerald received his Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia Southern University and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia. He teaches piano and organ in the Macon community and serves as the Treasurer of the Macon Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Billie Chapman

Billie T. Chapman began working for Highland Hills in 1993 serving as Church Secretary and Office Manager since 2001. She is married to J. D. Chapman and has two grown daughters, Denice Newton and Jennifer Joyner. Her four grandchildren are Will Newton, Jake Newton, Anna Joyner, and Audrey Jane Joyner.

Billie believes that working in the church office is a true calling that she thoroughly enjoys. It is her desire to serve the church in ways that will promote Highland Hills’ programs. She is always willing to assist newcomers, visitors and members. She enjoys reading, being with her family and friends, and shopping.

Debbie Buchanan

Debbie Buchanan began working as Church Secretary at Highland Hills in June of 2002. In March of 2009, Debbie added the job of Financial Secretary to her responsibilities. She is married to Russell Buchanan, and they have three children: a daughter Christine, married and teaching school; a daughter Katie, married with a son Logan Patrick born in February of 2009; and a son Ryan, a student at Macon State College.

Both of Debbie's daughters, Christine and Katie, served as HHBC summer interns for the Preschool and Children's ministries during their college years.

Debbie and Russell enjoy traveling to a variety of fun locations for camping, fishing, and boating. She also uses her spare time to indulge in photography and scrapbooking.
