“Be still, and know that I am God!”

Churches have often overlooked this invitation from God, through the Psalmist. Let’s be honest…we tend to judge our effectiveness and success by how busy we are. We assess church vitality by how full the calendar is. We offer space in our churches for every activity imaginable: worship space, recreation space, education space, parking space, eating space, and the list goes on and on.

At Highland Hills, we take seriously God’s invitation (command?) to stillness and Sabbath. The Center for Spiritual Formation is a movement within our church to promote stillness before God. Integrated into the busyness of our weekly, monthly, and annual calendars are intentional times of quiet, stillness and retreat. A weekly Contemplative Sunday School Class is offered at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. A monthly Taize Service is held at our church and a monthly Contemplative Prayer Group meets at our pastor’s home. Several one-day retreats are offered through the year on our church grounds.

It’s not just about programs and activities at Highland Hills. We truly desire to create a space where God’s spirit can commune with our spirits: a place of quiet where the still small voice of God can be heard.

Center for Spiritual Formation

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

It’s always easy to find one more thing to do…it’s often difficult to find a place to rest and simply be with God. Highland Hills Baptist Church has established the Center for Spiritual Formation, a place where you can find the rest and nurture that your soul needs. The center’s one-day retreats are designed to provide spiritual guidance and time away from everyday life for members of the middle Georgia community.
