Faith in Writing

Faith in Writing

Sunday, September 8-29, 2019

Faith in Writing is a new Bible study opportunity for our community. Highland Hills has been chosen to participate in a four-session writing experiment that will take place during the month of September. It will begin on September 8 and go through September 29. Our reflections about this project will be used to shape an upcoming church writing group resource that is being created by Carol Younger and Jayne Gammons.

During September, our Highland Hills children will participate in this project during the Sunday School hour and will be led by Jayne Gammons. Our youth will participate during their Wednesday night Bible Study time and will be led by Cass DuCharme and Elizabeth O’Dell. Our parents will meet during the Sunday School hour and will be led by Ruth DuCharme. The adult class is for parents of preschoolers, children, and youth and will meet in the downstairs Community Room.

Imagine the conversations that can occur over the dinner table when every family member has spent time reflecting on the story of the Prodigal Son. Imagine what it will mean for parents to have a keepsake journal of their child’s spiritual and theological thoughts. Imagine what it will be like when our youth open up with their questions and concerns about how scripture is relevant to their lives. Imagine and participate with us as we explore the scriptures together.

Promotion Sunday and Blessing of Students

Promotion Sunday and Blessing of Students

Sunday, August 18

They are going back! Throughout Central Georgia students are heading back to the classroom, and we want to honor and bless our students as they mark this new beginning.

Sunday, August 18, is Promotion Sunday for our church. On this day, our students will begin the morning in their current Sunday School classes, and then at 10:30 a.m. we will promote those who are going into new classes and departments.

A highlight of this day will take place in worship when we present our first graders and seventh graders with a new Bible. Children and Youth in this age group are taking giant steps into new ministry areas of our church. We like to mark this occasion with the gift of a new Bible from our congregation.

Our worship on this Sunday will also include a Blessing of Students. Preschoolers, children, and youth are encouraged to bring their backpacks to worship for a time of individual blessing and to receive a gift to carry with them throughout the school year.

New SS Class Has Begun

New SS Class Has Begun

A group of mostly mid-life HHBC members gathered recently to discover ways that their age group could connect better with each other through our church. The group enthusiastically discussed short-term Bible studies, mission trips, service projects, social gatherings, and a new Sunday School class.

The new Sunday School class (which has yet to be given a name) began meeting on Sunday, March 31, at 9:45 a.m. in the room on the main hallway next to the Parlor. To get things rolling, the class will do a six-week study based on the book Let Me Ask You a Question by Matthew Croasmun, which looks at the questions that Jesus asked. The first class was an introduction to the study and books are available. The study will be led by three facilitators, who will guide the members to discuss the week’s Scripture passage and reading.

If you would like to gather with this group of mid-life folks for a time of Bible study and ministry, join us on Sunday's at 9:45 a.m. If you have questions about this new class, you can contact Carol Brown or Laura Ann Tatum.
