I have a confession to make. I am a sucker for those home renovation shows on cable TV. It
all began years ago with TLC’s "Trading Spaces". Now, I find myself enamored by HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” where the delightful couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, bring new life into homes in great locations.
For me, the best part of the show is the “reveal” when big screens hiding the renovated home from the new homeowners are removed. When their eyes open, their expressions are unable to contain their reactions. Many are moved to tears, never imagining how beautiful
their living spacing could be with the imagination of a designer.
What about the living spaces of your soul? How cluttered are they? Have you allowed past resentments to build up? Are there large pieces of your life that need to be removed or re-purposed? Lent provides the space for us to take stock of our lives and re-imagine what could be.
If you will allow it, if you will relinquish control long enough, then God will come into your space and make it anew. With the eye of a designer, God can re-purpose and renovate our lives to create beautiful spaces. Right now your life may at first appear to be random and messy, but under the guidance of God you may find that there is more to your life than you were able to see or comprehend.
I am still looking forward to the next big reveal.
