Steven Ministry Covenant

Covenants have been an important part of the Judeo-Christian faith since early times. On Stephen Ministry Sunday, June 30, the newly commissioned Stephen Leaders and Ministers made a reciprocal covenant with the congregation of HHBC. This covenant provides the Stephen Ministry team with a clear statement of what they promised and describes the support they can expect from the congregation.

The covenant describes the specific commitments a Stephen Minister makes to the congregation upon assuming his/her Stephen Ministry responsibilities:

• Accept and care faithfully for the care receiver assigned by the Referrals Coordinator
• Attend supervision sessions
• Maintain strict confidentiality
• Promote the church’s Stephen Ministry

In turn, the congregation of HHBC agreed to:

• Provide Stephen leaders and Stephen Ministers
• Provide funding to train Stephen Ministers
• Support and pray for the Stephen Ministry program

Stephen Leaders promised to:

• Recruit and train Stephen Ministers as needed
• Provide Small Group Peer Supervision and Continuing Education for Stephen Ministers
• Maintain confidentiality of all Stephen Ministry caring relationships
• Keep the membership and leadership of HHBC informed so as to build support for the ministry
• Encourage the continued growth of Stephen Ministers through prayer and spiritual formation

It is everyone’s responsibility to fulfill the promises made so that our Stephen Ministry will succeed.

Recognizing that God is the ultimate Cure Giver, the Mission of the Highland Hills Baptist Church Stephen Ministry is to serve God and bring Christ’s healing love to individuals who are experiencing life’s challenges through confidential, non-judgmental, one-on-one Christian care.
