A Season of Rebuilding :Lessons from the Book of Acts - Part 2

By Kam Cook

Stephen Ministry Coordinator

A correlation can be found between what the Apostles' experience electing a new Apostle to fill the vacancy left by Judas and what HHBC is currently experiencing. We are contemplating 7 Lessons to be found in the Book of Acts. We have previously discussed:

  • Lesson #1 – God’s Plan for us

  • Lesson #2 – Trust God

Today we will consider our 3rd Lesson.

3rd Lesson – As Christians, we should live by the teachings of Jesus

In Acts, Peter spoke to the Apostles and the Brethren and led them through the ‘biblical understanding’ of the betrayal of Judas as having been foretold, that it was part of The Plan and had to happen. Peter encouraged the Apostles to consider “what will it avail us to be added to the number of Christians, if we partake not of the spirit and nature of Christians?” If they condemned Judas, were they following in the teachings of Jesus who taught us to forgive seventy times seven?

Meaning of this Lesson- What happened at HHBC this summer was foretold by God. We have no control over what is past, but we do control our actions in the future. Most of us have indulged in unChristian-like behavior in recent months. We should not blame and condemn our fellow members, but instead work together as fellow Christians, not adversaries, to rebuild HHBC.

The following Lessons will be addressed over the next few weeks:

  • 4th Lesson – Forgiveness

  • 5th Lesson - Community

  • 6th Lesson - Renewal and New Sense of Purpose at HHBC.

  • 7th Lesson – The Power of Prayer
