Finding Our Way: A Lenten Journey to God

We come to faith wanting something, whether it is to know God, to know peace, or to know joy in life. Often our seeking of these things, no matter how faithful, can feel murky at best. In the bustle, chaos, and noise of life, it is easy to miss the ways in which God is trying to speak to us. There is always something tugging at our attention, whether it be incessant need or simple distraction. This Lenten season, as a church, we will enter into a time of listening to the ways God is working and moving already.

Listening for God’s Faithfulness in the Past

We do not travel the paths of faith alone. On Sunday mornings, we will consider the stories of those who have journeyed with God before us. From the covenants of the Old Testament, to the events of Holy Week and the Cross, we will walk alongside our spiritual ancestors to learn how we might hear from their own strivings and failings.

Listening for God in the Sabbath

On Wednesday nights, we will focus on the spiritual practice of Sabbath. We will carve out six intentional weeks of rebuilding this space in our lives. Taking notes from scripture, modern poets, and ancient saints, we will be learning to make space in our lives to hear God speak. This study will be based on Sabbath as Resistance by Walter Bruggeman, but as always, reading along is not required.
