Children leading one another in worship...

At Highland Hills, we value worship. It is one of the foundations of our church. It is also a foundation that we want to lay for our children. Our staff seeks to plan worship that is an intergenerational experience. We want our children beside us during worship—wiggly bodies, giggly smiles and all. It is through this experience that they learn the songs of our faith, where they witness the sacraments of communion and baptism, and where they learn the art of prayer and praise.

Children's Worship will take place on the first Sunday of each month. Following the Children's Sermon, children in first through fourth grade go with their leaders to the Spinks-Gurley classroom for their worship service. The children, with the guidance of their leaders, serve as worship leaders. They lead in scripture readings, ushering responsibilities, prayers, litanies, and more. Their focus follows the lectionary and seasons of the church year.

Children's Worship is a tool that will help our children to grow in faith and enhance their awareness of worship when they are beside us in "big church."

The first gathering of Children's Worship took place on Sunday, September 1, 2013.
