A Season of Rebuilding: Lessons from the Book of Acts - Part 2

By Kam Cook

Stephen Ministry Coordinator

The Book of Acts is an account of the beginning and spread of the Christian Church, the result of the work of the risen Lord and the Holy Spirit through the Apostles. Acts provides a guide for understanding the principles that ought to govern the church at any age. Last week we discussed the fact that God has a Plan for us.

2nd Lesson – Trust God

Seven deacons were chosen to care for the everyday problems of the early members so that the Apostles could carry out God’s Plan for the expansion of the Christian Church. How awesome it is that we can trust God to provide people to lead us in our faith and that God changes people’s hearts and spirit to fulfill His Plan.

Meaning of this Lesson– We can trust God to provide a transition team, search committee and - when God’s time is right - permanent staff to carry out His Plan. Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything, and that we need to wait for God to reveal His Plan. Heed the song “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” HHBC has needed time to heal, to put away anger, to forgive, to hope, and to rebuild before God sends us a new pastor. Be patient and trust God.

However, we can further God’s mission for HHBC by volunteering to help in any area in which we are gifted as well as by participating in church activities that help us discern and place our trust in God’s Plan. These include Sunday worship opportunities and Wednesday night Prayer Meeting.

The following Lessons will be addressed over the next few weeks:

  • 3rd Lesson - Living the Teachings of Jesus

  • 4th Lesson – Forgiveness

  • 5th Lesson – Community

  • 6th Lesson - Renewal and a New Sense of Purpose at HHBC

  • 7th Lesson – The Power of Prayer
