Our Church Place
Church land is different. Our land and building are different from an individual’s home or land because no one person owns it. It's different from a business' land because it does not exist to make money. We own land to serve the church and the community to the best of our ability. This means we may not always have as many resources as a city funded place like a library, or a communal space like a university or a country club, but our resources come together to bring God glory and honor. Every time we as a church make choices to share our space, or worship together, or tend the gifts of our space, we see glimpses of what the kingdom of God is like: “a ministry of reconciliation”. When people from all different walks of life come together, and work together for the common good of ourselves and this land we experience God’s reconciliation. And what a much needed thing that is!
-When on a random Tuesday night the building is brimming with scouts and the parking lot has children zooming by on their bikes, and neighbors leisurely walking their dog, that is a glimpse of the kingdom of God.
-When on a Wednesday night, we sit around the tables in the Great Room and eat dinner with people from all across Macon, and the economic and political spectrum, that is a glimpse of the Kingdom of God.
-When we gather to pray or to worship or study scripture, that is a glimpse of the Kingdom of God.
Our place, our land at its best, is where all can experience God, maybe even “A House of Prayer for All People”. We have a really special gift. At its best, our 27 acres is a physical manifestation, a tangible example, of the Kingdom of God here on earth. From the loblolly pines to the magnificent magnolias that dot our greenspace, our land is really special. It all points us to remember our creator.
So in this season of creation, let us remember that this place we worship on, is not just a building with a sanctuary or classrooms, but is this much bigger gift that points us to God and our role in the Kingdom of God.
