Dear Church,

Were your ears burning?

So often in church meetings and conversations, the topics of what we need to change and grow comes up. It is so easy to remember what we lost or envision what we need to cultivate, that we forget to celebrate the things that make our body of believers so strong.

A few months ago, I got an email from Baptist Women in Ministry, announcing that they were accepting nominations for their annual Church of Excellence Award. The award rooted in my head, because if I look up from my desk I see the license for ministry that Highland Hills gave me as a young intern over a decade ago. I have always felt the consistent support of nurturing and developing my own sense of call by this church. And that support for me is not unique. The more I have talked to other women in ministry who have come through Highland Hills, the more I see how this is a true gift of our church and has been for quite some time.

So in that spirit, I submitted our church for the Baptist Women in Ministry's Church of Excellence Award. I don't know if we will receive it, but I wanted you all to have the opportunity to read the recommendation letters that were written on your behalf. I encourage you to take a few minutes and read through these thoughtful letters. Know that I had a beautifully long list of women currently serving in churches across the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and men who paved the way that I could have asked, but could only submit four letters. Be encouraged dear church, this is something you do really well!

With gratitude to be one of your pastors,

Caitlin
