There is something magical to a child (or a child at heart) about a really cool truck. Whether it is the flashing lights, or watching a dump truck bed raise, or getting to work a water spout on a firetruck. And there is something really special about finding a way to let your child wonder and experience magic, especially for free.

It is easy to be cynical in our day and age. In light of the chaos of our unstable world, moments of child-like wonder and awe take on an almost sacred quality. What is it Jesus says? “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). Maybe in a child’s laughter or big smile, by making something good in the community, we find bits of God’s presence in our world. By creating spaces where kids and families can do something delightful, we see glimpses of the Kingdom of God.

We as a church family, under the leadership of our missions committee, are hoping to offer a little bit of that magic and sacredness to our neighborhood and anyone else on Saturday, March 14th. We are offering our first ever, stand alone, Touch-a-Truck event. Our parking lot will be full of trucks and cars and even a food truck on what is supposed to be a glorious Saturday morning.

The purpose of this event is really simple- to offer a fun and safe activity for families to go to on a Saturday morning. We hope in the process that children get to experience delight and wonder and that parents find a space where they can just be with their children for a few minutes on a pretty day. That we as a church might get to know some of our neighbors. Maybe make a new friends from across the middle Georgia region along the way. But more importantly, make something good, share a glimpse of the Kingdom of God, with our community and with each other.

So this is where you dear church come in, because being a part of the Kingdom of God does not happen by accident. Will you please come on Saturday, March 14th, and be a friendly and welcoming face? We can use friendly faces of all ages. This is a task that does not require ability or strength. The hard work of that day is in greeting people. The bravery that it takes to go up to a stranger and say “Glad you are here” or simply “welcome”. Help us share glimpses of the Kingdom of God, help us make something good!
