Where Have You Seen God this Summer?

No really, this is not just a title. It's a real and important question. Where have you seen God move this summer? Has it been in the waves on the beach, or the wind rustling through the trees on a summer vacation? What about the laughter of loved ones? Or the mighty summer storms that have rolled through middle Georgia this season? The fingerprints of God are all around this wonderful creation. Take a minute, look out a window or all around you--the beauty of God's creation is here if we are willing to see.

But I think the answers that I am really interested in hearing come from much harder earned experiences. A phrase comes to mind: "God comes to you disguised as your life" (attributed to Paula D'Arcy). This means in our bad days, our stressful days, and even our boring days, that God is doing something. That even in the months or weeks or seasons we want to skip on through, or are easy breezy, God is doing something if only we have eyes to see.

This question for me keeps coming up. We asked it as a church through the worship feedback, and it came up in homebound visits. It came up in my own conversations with my spiritual director, and it has come up as we worked on the Dawnings process as a church. This is the question that I think is going to drive us as a people of God forward. Where do you see God moving?

As we come to the end of the summer, take a minute and consider where you have seen God the last few months? I know for me, I have seen God at work in the children of Camp Wild Wonder, and in the boisterous singing in the Great Room. I have seen God at work in the laughter around the tables of Beer Talks and of Ingleside Village Pizza. The more I ask this question of myself and others, the more I see just how much God is working in my life and in the life of the church. Honestly, the more I ask this question, the more I am encouraged. The Spirit of God is moving. So let's get to looking!
